Tropical Cyclone Statement issued September 27 at 4:14AM EDT by NWS Key West FL HLSKEY This product covers the Florida Keys **Tropical Storm Warnings Canceled** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - All watches and warnings have been canceled * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * STORM INFORMATION: - About 470 miles north-northwest of Key West FL or about 470 miles north-northwest of Marathon FL - 31.2N 83.3W - Storm Intensity 90 mph - Movement North-northeast or 15 degrees at 26 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ At 200 AM EDT, the center of Hurricane Helene was located near latitude 31.2 North, longitude 83.3 West. Helene is moving toward the north-northeast near 26 mph. A turn toward the north is expected overnight, taking the center over central and northern Georgia this morning. After that, Helene is expected to turn northwestward and slow down over the Tennessee Valley later today and Saturday. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * SURGE: Coastal Flood Warnings remain in effect for the Upper Keys, especially the troublesome Bayside Communities. Coastal Flood Warning issued September 27 at 2:31AM EDT until September 27 at 12:00PM EDT by NWS Key West FL * WHAT...Southwest winds near 25 knots will maintain coastal flooding for the normally troublesome neighborhoods of the Upper Keys. Water levels will be slow to recede until winds decrease below 15 knots. * WHERE...Bayside communities of the Upper Florida Keys. * WHEN...Through this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes and businesses will be inundated. Some shoreline erosion will occur. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
