Tornado Watch issued April 16 at 8:46AM CDT until April 16 at 9:00AM CDT by NWS Topeka KS THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL ALLOW TORNADO WATCH 115 TO EXPIRE AT 9 AM CDT THIS MORNING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN KANSAS THIS ALLOWS TO EXPIRE 11 COUNTIES IN EAST CENTRAL KANSAS ANDERSON COFFEY DOUGLAS FRANKLIN LYON OSAGE SHAWNEE WABAUNSEE IN NORTHEAST KANSAS BROWN JACKSON JEFFERSON THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALMA, ALTA VISTA, BURLINGAME, BURLINGTON, CARBONDALE, EMPORIA, ESKRIDGE, GARNETT, GRANTVILLE, HARVEYVILLE, HIAWATHA, HOLTON, HORTON, LAWRENCE, LEBO, LYNDON, MAPLE HILL, MCFARLAND, MCLOUTH, MERIDEN, NORTONVILLE, OSAGE CITY, OSKALOOSA, OTTAWA, OVERBROOK, PAXICO, PERRY, TOPEKA, AND VALLEY FALLS.

Small tree limbs could be blown down too. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution while driving. Secure outdoor objects.

Special Weather Statement issued April 16 at 8:27AM CDT by NWS Topeka KS At 827 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 5 miles southwest of Muscotah to 3 miles south of Auburn. Movement was northeast at 35 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Topeka, Valley Falls, Auburn, Meriden, Hoyt, Ozawkie, Mayetta, Denison, Perry Lake, and Grantville. This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 near mile marker 355. Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 166 and 181. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 900 AM CDT for northeastern and east central Kansas.
