Special Weather Statement issued June 9 at 2:29PM EDT by NWS Indianapolis IN Early season heat is upon us, with forecasted high temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Gulf moisture surging northward into the state will bring heat indices into the 95 to 104-degree temperature range during peak heating both days. Use the following safety tips for facing the heat safely: * Stay hydrated, avoiding alcohol and drinks with heavy caffeine or sugar. * Dress in loose fitting clothing, light in color. * Take advantage of shade and air conditioning when possible. * Take frequent breaks when working outdoors. * Beware that automobiles heat up very quickly, thus pets and children should not be left in parked vehicles for any length of time. * Vulnerable populations are particularly at risk: elderly, infants, and people with chronic medical conditions. Northeastern Bartholomew County in central Indiana... Decatur County in central Indiana... Southeastern Shelby County in central Indiana... * Until 500 AM EDT. * At 145 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Greensburg, Adams, Milford, Hartsville, Millhousen, Letts, Burney and Newpoint. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are expected over the area.
