Flood Watch issued April 27 at 12:22PM CDT until April 28 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of Central, South Central, and Southeast Kansas, including the following counties, in Central Kansas, Chase. In South Central Kansas, Butler and Cowley. In Southeast Kansas, Allen, Chautauqua, Elk, Greenwood, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson. * WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will impact the region this afternoon through tonight. Pockets of very heavy rainfall and localized flooding are likely, along with the potential for rises and rivers and streams. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown.

In Southeast Kansas, Allen, Chautauqua, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson. * WHEN...Until 1215 PM CDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1207 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Independence, Chanute, Iola, Neodesha, Fredonia, Cherryvale, Caney, Humboldt, Yates Center, Sedan, La Harpe, Gas, Moran, Thayer, Altoona, Elk City, Buffalo, Tyro, Neosho Falls and Peru. Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued April 28 at 12:29AM CDT until April 28 at 1:15AM CDT by NWS Wichita KS At 1229 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 miles southwest of Elk City to Dearing to 5 miles southeast of South Coffeyville to 6 miles east of Lenapah to 5 miles northeast of New Alluwe, moving northeast at 55 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Coffeyville, Independence, Cherryvale, Caney, Sedan, Dearing, Longton, Elk City, Tyro, Peru, Liberty, Chautauqua, Havana, Elgin, Bolton, Niotaze, Angola, Elk City Lake, Elk City State Park, and Hale.
