Flood Watch issued June 27 at 9:44AM EDT until June 28 at 11:00AM EDT by NWS Morristown TN * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Portions of east Tennessee, including the following areas, Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount Smoky Mountains, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Grainger, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Morgan, North Sevier, Northwest Blount, Northwest Carter, Northwest Cocke, Northwest Greene, Northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Carter, Southeast Greene, Southeast Monroe, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington TN and southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Lee, Russell, Scott VA, Washington VA and Wise. * WHEN...From 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ this evening through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage this afternoon and evening, with showers and storms continuing into Sunday morning. Training of showers and storms will occur across some areas. These are the areas where flooding is most likely. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Special Weather Statement issued June 27 at 2:43PM EDT by NWS Morristown TN At 243 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Abingdon to 9 miles north of Tusculum. Movement was east at 35 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol Tn, Bristol Va, Elizabethton, Abingdon, Erwin, Mountain City, Jonesborough, and Central. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until these storms pass.
