Rip Current Statement issued June 20 at 12:14AM CDT until June 20 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Houston/Galveston TX * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...Gulf-facing beaches, including the Matagorda Peninsula, Brazoria County beaches, Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula. * WHEN...Through this evening. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Swim near a lifeguard and away from rocks, jetties, and piers. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Special Weather Statement issued June 20 at 4:09PM CDT by NWS Houston/Galveston TX At 409 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Hillcrest, or over Alvin, moving northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Pasadena, Pearland, League City, Baytown, Galveston Causeway, Galveston Island West End, Texas City, Friendswood, La Porte, Deer Park, Alvin, Dickinson, South Houston, La Marque, Santa Fe, Seabrook, Webster, Hitchcock, Manvel, and Beach City. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... East Galveston Bay, Galveston Ship Channel, Upper San Jacinto Bay, Scott Bay, Galveston Bay Entrance, Galveston Bay, Tabbs Bay, Burnet Bay, Offatts Bayou, North Jetty, Galveston Pier 21, Trinity Bay, Smith Point, Galveston Causeway, Rollover Pass, Mitchell Bay, Black Duck Bay, Crystal Bay, The Texas City Dike, and Eagle Point.
