Flood Watch issued July 21 at 1:52PM EDT until July 22 at 8:00AM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Portions of northwest North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe and Watauga, Virginia, including the following areas, Alleghany VA, Bath, Bland, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following areas, Eastern Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Summers and Western Greenbrier. * WHEN...Through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A slow moving cold front combined with an upper level disturbance will bring widespread heavy rain to the region. Rain will sometimes be torrential and could cause urban, small stream, or flash flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Flood Advisory issued July 21 at 3:30PM EDT until July 21 at 6:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Portions of southwest Virginia, including the following county, Giles and southeast West Virginia, including the following counties, Mercer, Monroe and Summers. * WHEN...Until 600 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 330 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Adair Run, Brush Creek, Lick Creek, Little Island Creek, Hales Branch, East River, Island Creek, Daves Fork, New River, Hackett Creek, Big Spring Branch and Crooked Creek. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected through the next hour. Additional showers and storms may return around 430 PM EDT. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Peterstown... Rich Creek... Oakvale... Glen Lyn... Willowton... Elgood...
